For information about hospitals in the UK, there is no substitute to going and looking with your own eyes, but the following sites are useful; Consultant Index is very useful index of UK consultants by hospital, speciality, etc; Harvard University Medical School has produced some good general information on High Risk Obstetrics; Mayday Healthcare NHS Trust (our local hospital); London Medicine about hospitals and healthcare facilities in London, UK. There are three charities worth contacting; The Multiple Births Foundation and Tamba (Twins and Multiple Births association) are both based in the UK; the Croydon Twins Club is our local TAMBA affiliate; The Triplet Connection is a superb US resource for parents of multiples, with a great Q&A section. The Triplet Connection does have contacts in the UK too. In the UK, there is also The National Childbirth Trust, which is more oriented towards normal births. Their web site has an interesting and useful links page. I have not yet checked out the La Leche League (GB). More recently, I have been in touch with the UK Cord Blood bank. They have a very informative web site about the benefits of saving the stem cells in your baby's cord blood. The stem cells can be frozen indefinitely then used to treat all kinds of nasty diseases if they happen in the future. It is especially a good idea for parents of mixed ethnicity (ie us!) as in these cases it can be harder to find a good cell-type match. A person's own cord blood cannot be used to treat congenital disorders (because the stem cells carry the disease too). But sibling stem cells have a 50% chance of matching. So saving cord blood for our (non-identical) triplets is a really sensible thing to do! Information on car seats at Baby Bargains Car Seat Info Page, and the RunAbout stroller we plan to get. Here are some good multiple-pregnancy related articles. London's best baby store for cots, strollers, car seats, etc is, Lilliput, in Batersea. They are very safety conscious and offer free car seat safety checks. Mothercare has a pretty good website which goes beyond selling goods to meal planners, etc. Triplets Canada has lots of fun and interesting information. This web site from the US government's National Center for Health Statistics has lots of useful info with tables and graphs on babies' weights by age, etc. And here are our doctors; Mr Michael Booker; Mr Guy Thorpe-Beeston; and Professor Kypros Nicolaides. |
