6inch Telescope

Projects

wpe3.jpg (5963 bytes)Around 2am in the morning of Saturday 12th August 2000, I pointed my home made telescope at Saturn and saw its rings.  I pointed it at Jupiter and saw her moons too.  It is immensely satisfying to build a telescope capable of seeing some of the hidden beauties of the universe.  And fortunately not too difficult.  I wouldwpe2.jpg (5645 bytes) encourage anyone to have a go and do it themselves!

For the technically minded, I built a classic Newtonian (reflecting) telescope using a 4.25" f/6 mirror, with a 6.5mm eye-piece (for a total magnification of about 120x).

Future projects:

bulletA solar telescope for daytime use, with a home-ground 6" mirror.
bulletA 6" f/8 Dobsonian telescope for a better look at Saturn and other space objects.   Details about this telescope can be found under the link on the left.
bulletA fully computerised 10" telescope.
